Mäni is a children’s high chair developed through the transformation of collected wood pieces using both digital fabrication and manual techniques. Each component retains its natural irregularities, resulting in a non-standard serial object where no two parts are identical.
While the chair maintains a familiar typology, its contrasting elements—slender, curved front legs and thick, textured rear legs—evoke a hybrid, almost creature-like appearance. By combining normative elements such as the seat with non-normative structural parts, Mäni encourages children to interpret, imagine, and engage with the object beyond its functional role.
Geometry and texture are carefully manipulated at a 1:1 scale, allowing material qualities to remain visible and tactile, and positioning the chair as both furniture and an imaginative interface.
